Tips and Tricks on How to Travel With Your Pet

Since you first invited your four legged friend into your home, many of your happiest memories have taken place with them by your side. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine life without them close by. Their wagging tail a constant reminder to keep your chin up and stay positive. The look of adoration and implicit trust in their eyes reminding you that you are loved. The constant feeling of companionship and friendship that they provide… Life just isn’t the same when you’re around.

For this reason, lots of pet owners are reticent to leave them with kennels or pet-sitters when they travel. But fear not, with a little knowledge and knowhow and the right tips and tricks, travelling with your pet is as easy as it is enjoyable…

Bring lots of their favourite food

Good quality pet food may be hard to find while you’re away. And if you’re lucky enough to come across any in your chosen destination, you’re likely to pay through the wet shiny nose for it! That’s why it’s a great idea to head over to https://barkingheads.co.uk/[1] and stock up on their favourite foods prior to travelling.

Not only will they appreciate the familiar taste and texture, it also reduces the risk of tummy trouble when travelling! For this reason, it’s also a good idea to bring bottles of locally sourced water, too!

Research local vets

As when planning any getaway, it’s best to hope for the best but plan for the worst. What if your four legged friend takes a tumble or runs afoul of local wildlife on your travels? Knowing where to find local veterinary talent may make all the difference when it comes to getting your beloved friend back up on their paws again quickly.

Pack a pet first aid kit

Of course, not all scrapes require veterinary care. However, as when humans get injured, being able to administer correct first aid can make a huge difference if your pet is accidentally injured in their travels.

Check your destination’s pet health certificate requirements

Depending on where you’re travelling, your pet might need a health certificate to prove to the hotel / airline / border authorities that they are not a risk to the environment. And unfortunately, seeing their glossy coat and shiny nose isn’t quite enough. Make sure their health is certified by your vet before you set off. It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

Make sure your hotel is pet friendly and not just pet tolerant

Many hotels allow pets, but not all truly embrace them! Do some homework on your hotel to ensure that your furry family members receive just as much of a welcome to those on two legs. Truly pet friendly hotels will have somewhere comfortable for your pet to sleep as well as a welcome pack with toys, bedding, treats etc. They will also allow them to roam outside of your room (although most won’t allow them in dining areas for health and safety reasons).

Learn the right tips and tricks and you have all you need for a truly pawesome trip!
